I believe you know the anwser to your question is it ok to takt a medication for a purpose other than which it is intended NO, anithisimines have long term negative effects when used in large amount or to often..youll soon develop a tolerance and need to drink large amounts of yourcold medicine to get to sleep...not good for important organs like your liver, and kidneys..go back to doctor tell him you want some sleep medication like flurazepam or.theres a newer lessaddictive one I believe its called roserem
