Hello and hope you are doing well.
As the mask leaks, the pressure may not be adequate to keep the airways patent. In the sleep test the pressure levels are monitored and increased to counter the apneas in Obstructive Sleep Apnea.
Only go for regular follow ups with your doctor to check to see if the apneas are under control and if your sleep is adequate. Ensure to use the CPAP machine regularly.
Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
why is it important to have low leaks on a mask?
I noticed the sleep tech raised my pressure because of flow limitations? is that correct? is my pressure too high at 18/14 if my BMI is 24?
Hello and hope you are doing well.
Understand your predicament. Masks can give a claustrophobic feeling to certain individuals. You could start by trying them for very short periods and then increase the timing as you get more comfortable. You could ask for nasal masks. Alternatively, you could try BiPAP, which is a bi level pressure device, which regulates according to inspiration and expiration, and hence is more comfortable.
