Waking up in the middle of the night and seeing things floating?

I have been experiencing this for about a year now and I have no idea what could be the cause of this. One night I went to sleep around the same time I always do and I woke up and saw something floating above me. It resembled a spider web or a bunch of strings just jumbled together and every time I would blink it would get closer and closer to me. Eventually I became too scared to continue to look at it and I grabbed my phone, turned on my flash, looked around my room, and saw nothing. This would happen almost every night and it would only happen after I had already fallen asleep and woke back up. On other nights I would see the same stringy figure but once I sat up and looked around my room I would see something else. Every time I would blink I would see a completely different room surrounding me. It wasn't extremely detailed or solid room, it was faint/faded but I could tell it definitely wasn't my room that I could see. Sorry this is so long but this has been happening for a while now and I've never told anyone and I just wanted to know if it's something I should be worried about. If you know or even have half an explanation please share it!!  Anything would be appreciated!!
