I know it's been 6 years since you posted but I just stumbled across your post and I have been experiencing the exact same thing! I wake up in the middle of the night, I know I'm at home, in my bed, and I'm in the nude, but I do not recognize my husband. He is always a friend, a stranger, or one time I was convinced he was my brother. But I'm always immediately alarmed that I'm nude in bed with this person and think what an idiot I was to go to bed in the nude when I was sharing my bed with this other friend/acquaintance etc. I always then try to sneak some pajamas back on before this "person" (and it's always my husband) noticed I'm naked. But halfway through the process I snap out of it and realize who he actually is. Last night he woke up and caught me trying to wriggle out of bed as I was literally on the floor trying to hide out of sight. As soon as he said "what the heck are you on the floor for???" I snapped out of it and we had a laugh. But it's always when I don't wear pajamas, which is weird because I used to sleep naked all the time when we first were dating, 13 years ago. Anyway, not sure what causes it but wanted to add my story.
No i don't think you have anything to worry about. It all has to do with your unconscious and conscious mind and the transitioning in between the two, such as waking up from a dream or coming to consciousness after being knocked out. The brain is simply trying to distinguish between two different realities.
It is not that you don't love your husband or dislike waking up next to him, it is just that your brain is trying to sort out so much immediately after waking and can sometimes upset the nervous system.
I had a friend who could go hours into her day believing something that happened to her in a dream she had the night before. She has no medical issues. She found that this happened mostly after nights of deep REM sleep and heavy dreaming.
Not to worry. This is normal.
All the best,
Brittany

Are you on any medications or do any drugs? (please don't take offense to this question)
I have not had that exactly happen, I have woke up though, and not noticed, but at the same time noticed where I was. I think it stems from dreams, however, if you do not take any medications or do any drugs, while I doubt very very much it's something serious, you might want to see a doctor.
