Weird Sleeping Habits

Usually while I am falling asleep I twitch, which I have heard is common.
But as I fall deeper into sleep I stop breathing and after a while (not sure how long) I jerk my self awake. Once I am awake I am gadping for air, have very dry mouth, and am sweaty and hot.

I was wondering what may cause this and what can i do to prevent this from happening?

dgs75057 is right, sleep apnea patients often complain of stopping breathing, gasping, and heart racing, waking them from sleep.

Go get a sleep study.

I agree with the two above - I had the same - and burning throat like asthma.

I have moderate sleep apena - on a pressure or 18cm and am 97% compliant on a CPAP for the last 5 years - the CPAP makes a huge difference.

University of Michigan did a study that found low dopamine is a considerable factor of sleep apnea - my dopamine has tested low - also check your thyroid, I am hypo.

There are so many things that are linked to sleep apnea.

Compliance to using the CPAP is Key! and then do tests for the rest!

Best of luck - Sleep Apnea is serious and can WRECK your life. Be aggressive in seeking treatment.

Glad you're so much better with CPAP, it helps many people.  As well as thyroid hormone replacement if you're hypothyroid.
