Hello and hope you are doing well.

To get good sleep follow good sleep hygiene measures like going to bed at the same time, waking up at the same time, avoidance of alcohol, smoking and caffeinated beverages. Maintain warm, comfortable bedroom environment and engage in relaxing activities like a warm bath before bed time. Have a glass of milk or read a book before trying to sleep. Don’t watch TV or do exercise before sleeping. Condition yourself that you can relax and that you can sleep well.

Also, exercise during the daytime, this promotes good sleep.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

What have you tried; what may be causing it? Have you started a new medicine that may be keeping you up? Do you have chronic insomnia and can't sleep for a few days at a time, or are you waking up constantly and drifting into unpleasant dreams. Or do you possibly have sleep apnea and just feel like you're not getting enough sleep? Sometimes restlessness is just a symptom of something like chemical imbalances. It really depends on what's causing the issue to know how to really fix it.

If your problems are medication related, maybe try to take them earlier in the day. Or if your sleep problems are severe ask your doctor to be switched to one with less side effects.

If you're feeling anxious or a lot of stress, I would suggest some relaxation techniques. Anything that would help you relax into a more pleasant sleep. That may mean taking a hot bath, drinking herbal teas, meditation, and possibly removing all sort of media before bed time. I would also suggest trying to get more exercise during the day and trying to stay on a regular eating schedule. I don't know why, but schedules really helped me. There are also natural sleep aids like melatonin, which may help you. If your stress is really severe or caused by trauma, maybe you should see a counselor or psychiatrist.

If it's more of a case of trying to turn off your brain than I strongly suggest no media before bed. Seems really silly, but I know I will get a nightmares if I watch anything within an hour of bed unless it's Disney. And I know I sleep best when I don't have any visual stimuli before sleeping. Perhaps you need to do something similar. It may also help to get a diary and just kind of "word vomit". By that I mean just write out everything that runs through your mind, don't give it a second thought, just get it out and deal with it later.

Good luck!
