What may be the cause I had a dream and was awake

I was driving to work and I smelled something and it was distinctive I couldn't think of where I had smelled it before and then I remembered it was a dream at that time I begin to dream and the dream carried on for a minute a minute and a half at the same time driving and one part of my mind the dream was real and in the other part I was driving down the road and it put me into an anxiety attack is there any reason that might have caused that then I might need to see a doctor for thank you
