all I do is sleep!

I'm a 32 year old pretty much healthy male. Since I was in high school I've always needed a lot of sleep. I get good sleep at night but by mid day, sometimes late mornings, I get so tired I can no longer keep my eyes open. I even fall asleep at work both sitting and standing. Every day when I get home from work I take a nap for at least 2 hours (later if my wife gets home from work late). On weekends I get up around 7 or 8 am and by noon I can't keep my eyes open any longer and sleep for 4 to 5 hours. I'm sick of being tired all the time! Anyone else dealt with this or have any idea what causes it?

I concur that you need to discuss this fatigue with your doctor; get some  basic lab work done to rule out culprits like thyroid disorders, electrolyte imbalances, and anemia; and pursue a sleep study WITH MLST** if all that comes back negative. I highlight the MSLT portion, as this is necessary in addition to a basic polysomnogram when trying to diagnose daytime sleepiness such as Narcolepsy or Idiopathic Hypersomnia.

Expensive but a professional sleep study should tell you what is the matter, or at least establish what is missing, e.g., REM sleep time.  Not all hours of sleep are equal in terms of getting rest.

Do you week solid when asleep, or do you often wake up...maybe feel shot of breath or have a high heart rate?  This could suggest Sleep Apnea.. which would be found in a sleep study.
