brain fog and fatigue

i have had insomnia due to lyme disease and fibromyalgia for almost 30yrs. as a result, i have suffered with chronic fatigue, low energy, and brain frog (among many other symptoms). i am a mother and a college student and obviously these symptoms are not conducive to either role...ugh! i am tired of relying on prescription drugs to treat my symptoms and am in search of some healthy alternatives. any suggestions?

With all your symptoms, you've never had a sleep study - has a doctor never suggested one? Excuse me now while I go SCREAM!!!!! I hate when I hear of someone under a doctor's care and suffering for years when everything possible to help them has not been done. At this point you don't need another shot-in-the-dark treatment for your symptoms (prescription or natural). You haven't yet completed the diagnostic process until everything that could cause your symptoms has been systematically ruled out. In my nonprofessional yet very strong opinion, that has not happened. After a sleep study, please come back and let me know if I got all riled up over nothing. Best wishes.

I guess I have more questions than answers, primarily, have you had a sleep study? Just hoping your docs have exhausted all avenues to find other possible contributors to how you feel. Sleep disorders can cause symptoms that sound similar to yours.

Prescription drugs are good when they work without giving unacceptable side-effects. All the meds I've tried have 'tiredness' as a side-effect, but I am able to ignore it & do what I want to do & rest when I've done it. A 'talking t herapy' may suit you? Cognitive behaviour therapy has helped a lot, but I remain on meds. in order to avoid relapse. Alternative Medicine's not for me, as it's mostly if not entirely validated, as all prescribed drugs must be. When the word 'natural' pops up I know the deadly nightshade/hemlock/arsenic are all natural. Beware of going down that route.Exercise/reading/cycling etc work for me. You need to find out what relaxes you best. Swimming/dancing may suit you?Hope someone comes up with something you can trust. Faith's worthless to me, as I'm an atheist, but some get help from it. Best wishes. George
