Hi,
It is best to avoid medicines which promote sleep. Sedatives and hypnotics are best taken under the guidance of a specialist. Inability to sleep could be problems with initiating sleep or maintaining sleep and is called insomnia. Sleeping disorders like obstructive sleep apnea and restless legs syndrome can produce inadequate sleep. I would advise you to discuss your symptoms with your primary care physician who may then refer you to a sleep specialist for further evaluation. In the meantime, you should stop becoming anxious and try to relax. Try to have a warm bath before sleeping. Have a glass of milk or read a book before trying to sleep. Don’t watch TV or do exercise before sleeping. Condition yourself that you can relax and that you can sleep well.
