excessive daytime sleepiness

I have NOT been diagnosed with narcolepsy, just did not know where else to put this.
I have experienced EDS since I was a child.  My PCP has a chart full of complaints, blood work, thyroid tests and no resolution.  Following a near miss with a bridge I was able to get a referral for a nocturnal eximetry read, sleep study and lastly a MSLT.  All show negative.  Altho in the MSLT I fell asleep within 5 minutes I did not go into REM which I understand elminates  the theory of narcolepsy.  I do, however, identify with many symptoms of narcolepsy.  I've had extensive blood work, all is within normal ranges.

During childhood, teen years and early adulthood I did experience sleep paralysis and muscle weakness with laughter.  the sleep paralysis shows up infrequently now.

A common question is do I drink coffee and smoke.  Yes, I do.  I did not when I was a child and a teenager and this has been a lifetime problem for me.

I work as a scrub nurse and zone out or fall asleep standing at the table. I often feel as though I am going through the motions.   There are times I am nearly asleep eating lunch.  Driving is a serious problem.  I've never been able to get through a movie in its entirety, reading lasts about 10 minutes, Iectures/conferences are impossible to get through.  Too many times I've had to excuse myself from an outing for fear of falling asleep.

My diet is healthy and I get 6 - 7 hours of sleep each night.  If I go to bed an hour early I will fall asleep but will be wide awake at 2 or 3.  If I do fall back asleep I will sleep through my alarm.

I start out for work in the morning and home every night afraid  the worst will happen.  I must work and public transportation does not exist where I live.

I need help.

Hi,
Have you met the psychiatrist regarding your problem.Maybe you have a psychological problem bothering your subconsious mind.
Do a repeat blood work.check for hypothyroidism, does anyone else in your family suffer with the same symptoms? Are you taking a balanced diet?Add vitamin d supplemented with calcium in your diet intake,in many cases with your symptoms it has proved to be helpful.
Goodluck.
