extreme hand pain when sleeping

Good day... I have extreme tingling, painful numbness that only occurs about 3hours after falling asleep. And the only way to cease the symptoms is to get up and move around, but this has led to irregular sleep. This has been going on for the last 5years without any real answers from my doctor. I've had progressing weakness in my grip and stiffness in both hands. Help!

I work late nights at Denny's and have a hubby and 4 kids to look after... So quitting isn't an option! I just hope I get resolution soon... God bless!

I haven't given up guessing... could it be arthritis?  I recall my mother had to sleep with her arm hanging over the edge of the bed, what circulation?  This was when I was quite young, so I don't remember any details and I don't remember it being mentioned when I was older.

I think pain can be caused by too little blood getting to the muscles.  You may try posting on a Community dealing with arthritis, I haven't checked to see if there is one on Medhelp, but I bet there is or there is something else that may lead to a match with someone who has solved a similar problem.

Best wishes for a solution.

Thanks for your reply:-) the only reason I asked in this forum was because it only happens when I am sleeping. I've considered position, I've worn braces to sleep, I've slept flat on my back, I've tried recliners... Basically everything under the sun! I consider it a"sleep disorder" because it keeps me awake and after only 3 hours of sleep before it kicks, I completely understand what it's like to go days on minimal real sleep. Just hoping someone somewhere might have any similar experiences... :'(

Have you posted your problem elsewhere? I don't think what you describe is a sleep disorder, unless there is something in the position you sleep in, but you must have considered the possibility that you are laying in a fashion that is cutting the blood to your hand off.
