jerks keeping me from falling asleep

by technik114, Apr 02, 2008 12:21AM
For three months now, I've been able to feel my heartbeat very intensely inside my head. Every 30 seconds or so, it feels like someone is grabbing my head suddenly then letting go. Along with this, I find I can't fall asleep without first battling a series of jerks and electric feeling shocks. So far Trazodone had been the only thing that helps - and even then it's still difficult to get to sleep and say asleep.

Can anyone help? It feels like my body is actively trying to STOP me from sleeping.

Hi technik114, how are you? You need to give some more details regarding the jerks you are suffering now like do they occur in one particular region or in whole of body? How often they occur and is it a continuous one or keeps repeating in an on and off pattern? Has any one observed whether these jerks you mention does continue even after you fall asleep? Is there anything that you do or it stops on its own? Usually, hypnic - sleep jerks or twitches are normal and can occur while you tend to fall asleep or when you try to wake up from sleep. You may also be suffering from severe stress and anxiety, which can also be a trigger factor. Have you noted your blood pressure readings? Also you might probably be having Rhythmic movement disorder. Do try to overcome the stress and relax. Physical therapy, body massage, regular stretches and warm bath before sleep can be helpful. Avoid smoking and alcohol. It is better to consult a neurologist and sleep specialist for further evaluation. Take care and update on your progress.
