There are two things I thought of while reading this.  One is, maybe the tea isn't agreeing with him.  You can tolerate something for a very long time and then all of a sudden become allergic to the ingredients.  This is just a guess since I am not there.

Also, the fact that he wants you to lie in the bed with him suggests that maybe he is nervous going to bed by himself, and that can actually upset a person's stomach.  Could it be that he is afraid of the dark or something happened recently that upset him and it was at night?

Other than that, I think a doctor's visit is in order, good luck and kiss the little guy for us.

Is it possible your son fell and hit his head recently and you didn't see it?

When you say he 'is sick' what do you mean?
What he does sounds quite typical for a 2 year old, except maybe for the 'sick' thing.
Perhaps you can try feeding him a bit earlier before bedtime and give him more time to digest, etc..
Maybe it's colic?
Perhaps a talk with his pediatrician is in order.
Good Luck
