strange leg sensation while sleeping

I had a total hysterectomy about 18 months ago.  I did not have any problem sleeping before the surgery, but a few weeks after the surgery, I would be awakened by a strange sensation in my inner thighs, it felt as if you tied a knot in a rubber band and was pulling it at both ends.  My doctor said that it might be restless leg syndrome, but I don't think so because it only happens at night when I am sleeping, sometimes I can be asleep for half an hour, or 3hrs it just depends on no specific amount of time. I should also say that sometimes if i am laying on my stomach, the sensation feels like it is traveling up my leg to the middle of my stomach.  I don't know how to really explain it.  If anyone of you out there has an answer..please let me know.  Thank you.

Although I have other sleep problems also, I'm sure the sleep problems have something to do with your hormone levels since the histerectomy as mine also worsened after a partial histerectomy. You may have had the knotting issues before but slept through it. You may need hormore replacement therapy.A change in one hormone can mess up many other hormones/chemicals in the body. Talk to your ob/gyn.

Hi, I have RLS and can tell you a little about it .  RLS tends to run in families but not  always.  It is a neurolocial disorder and it effects your legs mainly but can effect other parts of your body.  When your body relaxes it hits and mainly when you relax at night for some unknown reason.  The disorder normally worsens with age.  I mainly get RLS in my foot, ankle and calves and sometimes in my outter thigh.  If you move around the pain will go  away until you rest again; motion makes it stop.  When in my calves it feels like deep knots and it is very painful as it feels like the knots are tightening.  When in my feet, it feels like knotting in my feet.  When in my ankles it feels like, the best I can describe, like imagining an electrical wire humming with electricity.  It doesn't hurt but is very annoying and then progresses to the knotting in my legs.  When in my thighs it feels like knotting up.
My sister also gets it in her arms. Sometimes my legs will kick.  It is very painful and before going on meds for RLS, some nights I would be up all night long, up and down trying to stop the pain and even have tried sleeping standing up.

If it is RLS get your doctor to write you a prescription for Mirapex.  It is  the wonder drug for RLS.  Best to take it half hour to hour before planning on lying down for the night.
You can google RLS and there is alot of information pluse RLS support groups..
