Hi skitz758, how are you and hope your wife is keeping well? Hi KatEyes, thanks for sharing your thoughts. Yes it is a good idea to consult a sleep specialist and to get a sleep study done, as her snoring can be secondary to sleep apnea also. Have you got her evaluated by a doctor and is she on any physician care? Here is a link to know about few options how to go about treating it. http://www.putanendtosnoring.com/remedies.htm
Hope you will get her evaluated at a sleep center to get the sleep study done and an ENT consultation to rule out the causes as discussed in early post. Take care and share your thoughts.

Snoring can originate at different places in the airways. Commonly it is due to the soft palate becoming "floppy". There are some dental devices that can help, depending on the cause of her snoring. Do you ever hear her stop, things are quiet, then she resumes with a snorting or gasping sound? If so, please have her evaluated for sleep apnea. Her GP can refer her for the study or to a sleep doc.

Hi skitz758, how are you and how is your wife doing? How old is your wife and since when you have noticed her snoring? Snoring is common with most of people, more in men, menopausal women and few children. It can also be caused due to Obstructive sleep apnea but most of them simply snore. There are many causes like decreased muscular tone in tongue/throat, can be aggravated by alcohol/drug use, bulky throat soft tissue like enlarged tonsils or uvula, airway obstruction due to nasal congestion caused by frequent cold or allergies, any structural deformity within the airway and obesity etc. Snoring can be worse with high humidity in bedroom. Do take care of any allergies, regular exercise, changing sleep position to side instead of sleeping supine, need to avoid smoking, alcohol and sleeping pills. Snoring can also be controlled with some devices. If your wife is having a severe snoring, a corrective surgery can also be considered depending on cause. I do understand how frustrating it will be for you if not your wife to have a normal sleep at night. If nothing works out for her, I would like to suggest you to get your wife evaluated by an ENT specialist. Take care.
