Chantix is ruining my health

by mariabl, Jul 31, 2009 08:53AM
I have been posting on here since december with a whole list of medical problems that my doctor and a host of specialists can't find a cause for. I am a 32 year old female and was in excellent health (except for my smoking) until December. I took chantix one for a month last march to quit, fell off the wagon and started it again last december and quit for good. Since then I have had Heart palpitations and speeding up,a constant headache that doesn't go away, dizziness, confusion, trouble breathing, and pain behind my eyes. I have had every test and they can find nothing. Last night I looked up Chantix side effects on the web and found HUNDREDS of people with problems like mine that persist long after they stopped taking the pill. Many people in their thirties that just had a heart attack one day out of the blue (this is what I am most afraid of happening to me) Does anyone know how to undo the damage that chantix is causing?

I'm going to play the devils advocate here and ask you how you know that Chantix caused all of your problems?
You ailments may be coincindental and there are plenty of people who have problems at your age who have never taken the drug. I used Chantix and quit with it after nearly 2 months on it. I am 54 and had no problems at all.

I have noticed complaints about the "during and aftermath" of Chantix but no one can definitively link it to the drug. If they could, then the FDA would stop the sale. It very well could be a nasty side effect, one that knowing would disuade others from using it, but until then, we are relying on the drug companies studies (could be lopsided).

Start a petition and if you get enough signers, maybe then your local congressman can get it brought to attention of someone who would be willing to do more than rely on the data already out there. Isn't that what they did with Effexor? Acually, it took the suicide of a politician's son to delve into the effects.

I sure hope you get some answers and I sincerely hope that you feel better soon. It would be a darn shame to learn that something so positive has to many negatives. Good luck

all drugs have tons of side effects and listed and unproven problems. I know chantix has some, stomach, depression  effectsbut never heard of the heart palpatations or the other stuff. I have been taking it for over a year with just about no problems. I only take a few a week and it has been a big help to me. all the best
