How long before SOB goes away?

by strdsbrg, Mar 11, 2008 12:00PM
I'm 41 and have smoked 25 years.  I've quit smoking for a month.  It's the longest I've ever gone and I really think this is it this time, but it seems my shortness of breath when I run up stairs is as bad as ever.  How long have people here found it takes to get rid of it?  I've quit for a week or so in the past and it seemed to get better quickly - not completely, but there was definitely a difference right away.  This time it hasn't gotten better and I've quit smoking longer.  It's worrying me.

Hi and congrats to you!
I smoked for 38 yrs. and have quit for 5 months and it is just getting easier for me to breathe : )  Last week I was able to stay for 10 minutes (increased to 20 minutes now) on the elliptical machine and I am thrilled. In time it should get easier for us both. Just hang in there and keep it up!
I have used advair for the last 3 years and I am trying to wean myself off. I am hoping, in time, to be rid of it all together. If you do not use one then perhaps your lungs will repair faster, who knows : )
Good luck!
Kathy Jo
