Nicotine gum risks.

by John_jb1, Sep 22, 2008 03:47PM
Hello,

I have decided to kick the habit of smoking. And I've now fallen in love with nicotine gum. Although I have only been using them for about a month now. I have noticed that I keep getting random hick-ups, which is to be expected I know. I also use the nicotine gum to basically calm me down with my anxiety issues.

Anyway, my main question. I have been researching nicotine gum, and I find out about the gum disease risk increase. So as an anxious person does, I researched into this. And apparently a recent study has shown that in fact it does not increase the chance. Does anyone want to add to this?

I quote from Wikipedia:
"Nicotine constricts blood vessels, including those of the gums, which has led to speculation that long-term use of nicotine gum may contribute to risk for gum disease. However, one clinical study has found no connection between 15 weeks of nicotine gum use and oral health"

Thanks

John, I think you need to post that question to the Doctors and I am not sure how you go about doing that.

I know a few people that use the gum, one in particular who has been chewing for about 10 years, and I know that he is just as hooked on the gum as he was on smokes, so be careful.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help but try the medical doctor section.
