Question re coughing, clearing lungs

Hello everyone, ok so I'm going onto my 4th non smoking day and I'm wondering why I am unable to cough up the gunk that's probably stuck to my lungs. Is it still too early to expect this to happen?   Thank you.

Some people do, and some don't, I wouldn't worry. I smoked for 38 years and only coughed when I was smoking. Consider yourself lucky Angelina : )  Congrats to you!

I never went through the coughing phase when I quit. I too coughed when I was smoking. I have 70 some days of not smoking and I have the occasional dry cough. I hope you don't go through the coughing either. :)

Yuck, coughed when smoking! I was so addicted I wouldn't stop smoking the cig. even if I was coughing. Again, YUCK! :)

Thanks Kathyjo and elwoodsf - funny thing is I coughed abit as well when I was smoking so I would have expected full blown coughing fits now as a sign that my lungs are being cleansed.  Guess I am lucky! :-)

Elwoodsf - I was completely addicted as well. I smoked when I had a sore throat, when I was in hospital etc. Isn't it GREAT that we no longer need to rely on the cancer stick and allow our bodies to heal again? I feel such a sense of freedom and control again.  If we can do this and succeed,we can do anything!

Hope you both have a lovely day!  x

I have been quit for 4 Days, 9 hours, 49 minutes and 5 seconds (4 days). I have saved $61.72 by not smoking 88 cigarettes. I have saved 7 hours and 20 minutes of my life. My Quit Date: 30/03/2009 1:53 AM

I didn't cough either when I quit even though I was coughing like crazy when I smoked.  Like you, I kept expecting to cough up a bunch of gunk, but it never happened.  I even asked my doc about it and she said this was normal.
