Too angry to quit

I work at a medical institute which requires us to leave the premises if we want to smoke and punch out for such time. Well my job is so short on staff I do not get to leave for my two 15min and one 30min during a 12 hour shift. Then they tell us if we want to smoke we have to find our own coverage for our breaks. Well other staff that do not smoke refuse to give us breaks. To top that off we are required to pay extra for our insurance because we are smokers.
I would love to quit smoking... however I feel like I am being forced to do something only because it is socially expected not because I have a choice. Why should my rights to choice be snatched away and penalized because I smoke. I feel its wrong. Employer's can place all these restrictions on smokers but what about people that drink any form of alcohol. That is responsible for deaths of people as well. I don't drink (don't get me wrong, I don't judge) but I cant stand to be around drunks. Why don't they have to pay extra prices on insurance? Why don't people get crucified because they drink, whether causal or non-causal.
I just want to be treated fairly. What can I do to help ease this rebellious attitude so that I can stop because I want to not because I am told to.

I agree with Blu. We are suffering from a very bullying and oppressive Puritan heritage. There are now laws all over the place that limit our free choice.

"If we don't do it, no one can do it," says it all.

Talk to your Better Business Beureu (sp?) and/or your Equal Opportunity Rep.  Their numbers should be visibly posted in your workplace, as they should, by law.  Ask these questions.  I don't think you are being treated fairly, smoker or not.  Blessings - Blu
