Tryed befor -- gotta do it this time

I've tryed many times to QUIT, never did it atleast not for long. Hypnoises,  the Patch ( took it off to smoke, then put it on again), gum made me vomit, cold turkey( OMG, not a good idea for me) the med's from Dr. script was none I started again.
Now I have COPD and have to QUIT, or things will get worst, will not get better no matter if I do stop but it will help. I know all the pros and cons. I know how hard it is for me but I also know I have to do it. Guess I'm trying to convence myself more then anything.
I'm going to set a quit date and talk to my DR. about help. I guess what I'm asking is or looking for is support. My husband also smokes and he said he will QUIT also, that would be great, if he cann't he has to aleast help me by not smokung around me. Any other ideas would be a help for me.

You are right. You don't have a choice now. I lost my dad from COPD and enpezima.sp?
You do not want to go that way. His chest got bigger nd his arms and legs got smaller.'
They call it barrel chest.

You both need to quit.
Go to the web site whyquit.com. There is a lot of good info there. You ca get you own meter.
Hope this helps

Sorry about the diagnosis......I guess it's something we should expect, but we never believe it will happen to us : (

I believe, in order to have a successful quit, you have to really want to. Wanting to and having to are not the same. What helped me prepare was to read the articles at whyquit.com, under the "education" column and try to understand your addiction and why you have failed in the past. For me, those articles helped me understand what to expect, how to deal with the cravings and the reasons why I shouldn't and couldn't give in to them.

You need to make a plan. Which aid if any will you go with? I quit with chantix and it worked well for me. I was ready. Once you chose the method, then you need to set a date and tell as many people as possible about your intent. Ask them to support you in this and not to let you smoke. If your husband isn't ready to quit, then make him take it outdoors so as not to tempt you.

I smoked for about 40 years and I thought they would have to bury me with my cigs. I never believed that I would be able to quit....I wanted to, but my anxiety made me believe that I needed them. It wasn't until I researched just what smoking did to emotions that made me realize that it was hurting, not helping!

This forum is a great support system. We will be here for you when you need us....all you need to bring is the desire.
Good luck!
