almost a year smoke free but still miss it.

by mr.lucky66, Oct 29, 2009 09:19PM
I started almost a year ago and chantix which made it easier. Now I don't have the same Rx plan and haven't been taking it and really notice the craving. When I see people buy ciggs or smoke I miss it. I'm not that close to caving in and smoking just dissapointed to still miss it.

Congrats to you!!  This is Huge!  I can appreciate how hard it is to make it to nearly a year because I haven't been able to go that long without cheating.  You know, my SIL quit smoking years ago and I asked her how long it took for her to quit thinking about it and she said about a year.  A year is really not that long when you compare it to how long we smoked so I would guess your feelings are normal.

You are doing so great and I'm glad you stop in from time to time because you are another long term success story that gives me hope :)

What makes me feel better is to remember the first couple of weeks and how strong the craves were and to compare them to the craves today and guess what, there is no comparison : )
It's 2 yrs. for me and yes, there are times that I do miss them still, but I focus on how good I am feeling and how cruddy I felt back when, and again, there is no comparison.

Don't let this get you down because, like Jade said, we smoked for decades so it's going to take longer for it to get out of our system. Concentrate on all the positives because there are so many!

Congratulations to you and make sure you celebrate your day with something very special....a juicy steak or something great : )

thanks, the steak sounds good. I did smoke for decades almost 40 years. I may go back on chantix for a while. all the best

Whatever you can do to protect your quit, do it. You have come to far to jeopardize it. Good luck to you mr. lucky, we are her for you : )

Thanks for your words. I will protect my "quit" whatever way I have to I got a script of Chantix yesterday and my doc reminded me how much netter off I am smoke free. The only problem is that I have to pay or it now but It would be worth it for a few months to take it every other day as we discussed. I am glad I have quit and for the longest time ever, I came too far toget tricked into smoking. thanks.

Kudos to you! It must be difficult when your other half gave in : ( You are obviously a strong person and your "want" to be rid of smokes is stronger then your want to do it! You should be very proud of yourself, congrats to you : )

Thanks Dawn and Kathy and we are both at around the 9 month point. It would have been 2 years but there were a few 3 days lapses but this is by far the longest completly smoke free period and I want it to continue. That's why I filled the Chantix at my expense and am taking 1 tab every other day and I feel better, THANKS.
