Often times when I have tried to quit smoking in the past I would get intense sinus headaches and nasal congestion about a week or so after trying to quit, but it seemed to go away when I started smoking regularly again. One time when I was trying to cut back from smoking 2 packs a day, down to only 1 a pack a day, I got the same wracking headaches every afternoon that stayed with me for weeks, even months, before finally getting better. Now I try to limit myself to only smoking 1/2 a pack a day, and that seems to keep the headaches away - but sometimes I wish I could quit for good, I just cant.

I also have had that sore throat too. I used to smoke half a pack of menthol cigarettes and at least one pack of regular or light cigarettes a day, but when I tried to stop smoking the menthols, after a few days my throat got terribly raw and hoarse for almost two weeks, before finally getting better. Menthols still feel so good on my occasionally sore throat, that I oftentimes will buy a pack to sooth myself; even though I know I probably shouldnt.

The other posters are right, weird things happen when you try to quit or cut back on smoking: Some of them good and some of them bad. You will probably adjust ok.

i sing. i'm not sure if i sing well or not....but i do. when i quit smoking 3 years ago, an entire octave and a half of my voice went missing for about 2 months. i've never found any info that can explain why that happened. it came back on its own eventually.....but i thought it was gone for good.

weird things happen when you quit. just stick it out! your body WILL thank you for it.

Hi Sandy,

This is not uncommon. A lot of people get cols, bronchitis, etc. when they stop. However, it still is a good idea to get to the doctor and get a good check-up just to be sure.

I hope you get to feeling better soon.
