hey everyone 1 year down

by avisg, Sep 27, 2007 05:33PM
Hey everyone,
I quit smoking one year ago . I was a three pack a day smoker .I had smoked for almost 20 years. (besides while being pregnant).I had once or twice quit  6 months here 6 months there.I got to the point where I got up too 3 packs a day.
In Sept of last year my eight year old son was diagnosed with pediatric testicular  cancer. That was it for me .I was done .How was I going to take care of him if I was sick or if I ended up with Cancer .
I have not smoked since .I do have times even a year after that I have a craving here and there .The first six months I had LOTS of them but it has really let up .I am so happy I quit .I jog now .I take care of myself .
Thankfully my son is doing good they removed his cancer and it has not come back . We are very lucky. So if there is anyone on here thinking about quitting YOU CAN DO IT !!!!!!

Beautiful!!!!  it is a extremely hard thing to do. I have quit and started so many times I make myself sick!!! For me its psychological, Sometimes I dont even crave one, but if its break time, or I am stressed I think, ok a smoke will chill me out!!!! congrats to you on your one year anniversery!

WOW, one year, RIGHT ON!  I am so excited about this forum.  I quit almost 3mos ago, but haven't been clean this week so it's very encouraging to read of others success.  Not only did I stop smoking for myself, but to be an example to my nieces and nephews who look up to me.  My 16yr old started smoking anyway and it just breaks my heart.

HAPPY ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY AVISG!!!!!!

Sorry to hear the way you had to quit with your son but is sounds like it has all worked out so congrats on both. There is always more fish to fry but smoking is a big thing to have out of your life.
