i have been trying to quit smoking for about 2 weeks. as in i finally starting making attempts not to smoke about 2 weeks ago. my fiance told me if i quit then he would quit doing what he does. i cant afford the nicotine patches or anything like that so i am trying very hard to wean myself off of cigarettes. ill do good for a day, then smoke 2 or 3 the next day.
i have cut back A LOT and i am proud of myself for that, but i should have been finished smoking a week ago. i have tried just holding a cigarette and going through the motions to help my cravings, and it works a little, but i still want to light up. any advice on how to do this painlessly and without patches or gum?

While you are weaning, you are losing you will to do it! Lay em down and walk away! 72 hrs later it is out of your system. If you wait like I did to get motivated or stay motivated you will not do it. You just have to realize you gotta do it no matter what your emotions tell you. Lay em down one evening before bed, and dont pick em back up. By the time you wake up you will already have several hours since nicotine on your side. Just a little psychological thing I discovered.

There is no such thing as a painless quit. Might as well come to terms with it. There is also no such thing as cutting down........and, quitting as a means of making someone else quit, well that's not going to work. The only thing that will is this:
WILLPOWER, DESIRE, DETERMINATION and sometimes ILLNESS : (

If you can't go a day without a smoke, then you are an addict, plain and simple. Welcome to the world of nicotine addiction, which will only get worse as time goes on. It is said, and I believe, that it's the hardest of the addictions to break free from.

As a smoker of nearly 40 years, I found that educating myself and preparing were essential to a successful (so far) quit.
Read the articles at whyquit.com and then re-read them. When you get an urge, take a walk then read an article. That website supports a Cold Turkey quit so you can receive a great deal of support from them in addition to us here.

If you want it badly enough, you can do it! Good luck!

You just have to do it . I know what you are thinking but you can do it .I was a 3 1/2 a pack a day smoker for yearssssssssssssssss Then three years ago I had had a family crisis happened with one of my children  you would think that would make me want to smoke more but I realized who was I going to take care of him if my smoking killed me .The first week I changed up the times I would smoke never after meals in the car any where I normally would .Then I just did it I walked every time I had a bad craving I would go for a short walk and every time by the time I got home the craving was gone .Make sure not to have any in your house to smoke it just makes it harder .I am still trying to get hubby to quit he is going to use the chantix pill I hope it works for him.You can do this just stick with it dont give up.
