has anyone tried organic tobacco? i wonder if it would easier to get off because it doesn't have all the addatives that make ciggarettes more addicting.

The principle is the same as oxy's. You need to have a plan to stop. Tapering might be easier. Ration them suckers out. You will need to have new habits. There are things you always do when smoking right?
You may need to change some things, even some friends.
Good luck on this one. Be strong. Cigarettes are not nearly as addictive as oxys.
Now here is something I can finally talk about with success! I smoked for 23 years, 2 packs/day. I have not smoked in 10 years now. I used the nicotine patch. But...I had to have something to do with my hands, mouth, etc....I cut straws in half (then they were the same length as a cig), and chewed them to pieces! I chewed straws in the car, next to the computer, even out in public...almost for a year! I had a pile of straws everywhere. It worked. I also went for a walk after dinner every single nite...even if there was a blizzard outside, because that is when I wanted a cig the most. I lost 15 pounds when I quit! Go figure. But...I remember thinking how could I ever ENJOY life without my cigs...like my best friends! Then....someone wise told me that they had NEVER met a smoker that said they wished they hadn't quit....hmmmm....a point to ponder, I thought at the time.
My cigs were more important than having food in the house at the time, so I CAN relate.
But....if I could quit, anyone can. For real.
Now....if only quitting the vics were that easy.....
When I think about how I quit smoking and I smoked 1 1/2 to 2 packs a day it makes me wonder why I can't quit drugs that way. I remember that I was just sick of it. I thought about good stuff like how good my car smelled and when I kissed my wife she stoped telling it felt like kissing an ash tray.
sounds like a good idea but not for me because if i got out some straws it would remind me to much of oc's lol.....unfortunately i snorted them and to help get clean i had to get rid of all my parraphanalia (i cant spell it u know what i mean) lol....so a straw would prob end up up my nose lol.....might work for someone else though thanks..and congrats on the 10 yrs.....maybe i could use a pencil instead? long as its not somethinf to do with pills or food...
ibkleen... goo d idea i will cheack that out....being a pill person i always come here lol.....
I always smoked more when I was using my doc, it made the ciggarette that much more sweet for me, but about a month and a half for me now I don't hardly smoke as much as I was when abusing the pills.
when you quit let me know. I have two bottles of chantix at home right now and for some reason i havent even opened the bottles. Kinda scared to try that right now. With insurance still cost me about 100.00 dollars for 2 week dosage. If that doesnt work i want a freakin refund. Doctor of course oh yes this will work, they're all in this together the doctors, pharamacies and the government. It's a conspiracy i say. Oh **** i need a smoke i'm gettin all worked up.
an addict is an addict, i have quit smoking 18 times, I am back again at quitting. it has been 30 days. I miss it more and more everytime I quit. I am disgusted with it all. I am an addict, cross addiction. I kicked the cocaine, and alcohol years ago, the smoking I have been tryin since 1999, 10 years, okay, so I turn to food, and more food, I AM AN ADDICT, AN ADDICT HAS TO ALWAYS HAVE SOMETHING TO GIVE THEM SOME KINDDA HIGH. IF I DON'T DO THE FOOD, THEN I TAKE PAIN MEDS OR SLEEPING MEDS, ANYTHING TO FORGET CIGS. IF NOT I EAT AND EAT. I HATE ADDICTION, AND YES, I MAY GO BACK TO SMOKING, TO KEEP SOME SANITY, AS THIS IS TOO MUCH. AFTER 10 YRS OF TRYING, AND PUTTING MYSELF THROUGH HELL, THERE COMES A POINT U JUST GOTTA SAY WHAT IS THE WORSE OF ALL THE THINGS I DO. WHAT IS GOING TO MAKE ME HAPPY OR MISERABLE THE REST OF MY LIFE??
It is the toughest addiction you will ever have to quit, no lie, so if you really want to make it your last quit, learn about what keeps you addicted and why you think you need to smoke. Try reading the articles at whyquit.com under the "Education" column. I swear there is an answer for every question and a reason for every thought, all you need to do is read them all and it will help you : )
It has been 2 years for me and I smoked for close to 40 and I was as bad as they come when it came to addiction. If I can, anyone can, and that's the truth!
Good luck to you, keep writing, keep reading, keep praying and keep educating yourself.

I'm right here with you! today is first day w/o pills...and I have an appt with the Tabocco Treatment Center after work. Chantix worked wonders for me back in April. Lucky for me, someone gave me 5 weeks of the stuff. It was awesome...total lack of desire for the cigs. After I was off the chantix I was still good...but then I got ahold of vics...there went that idea!
I do have an Rx for chantix and I intend to make the purchase this friday as my paycheck will have some wicked amount of overtime! The pills will cost me $145.00 per month...but I've figured it out, it does cost me about $163.00 a month to smoke (and waaaay more to pop pills)...so, I CAN and HAVE TO afford this.
Also, I'm donating a Kidney in February...I really need to clean my body out/up!
I'm sure you will see more of me here and I hope to be able to be a strong support for others as well.
