I am really concerned. My son is 27 months old and only says a few words on a daily basis. He can say plenty but chooses not to. Is there anything I can do to help his speech along? I read several books to him, take him on walks, we pretend play with playdough, dishes, cars, trains, he loves to swim. He has a lot of fun with me, but just doesn't want to talk to me. I have been told "he doesn't talk to you, because you don't make him".... I don't really know what that means. I can't help but feel like such a failure. What can I do?
Also, he doesn't say his own name & he hardly ever calls me mama or his dad by his name either. I know he knows what mama & dada means though. He just refuses to talk. Why?
