no speech , help please

i have a son of 3.9 who has a dx of Global delay devlopment ( he sabout 18months to 2 years behind in all areas) he has hypermoblity and hypertonia to,

But he has no speech  at all   never baby babbled or madeanimal sound smore grunts and noises,his recptive skills are at the one word level , he does use makton  took 12 months to respond but is putting 2 signs together now ie more, biscuit

they dont feel he  is on the ASd at all but  is at loss  to explain why  , other than hearing test which he passed fine been no othe rtests any idea what to do next or what could be

Children on the autistic spectrum have difficulties in three major areas.  You can google DSM IV autism and see what the characteristics are.  If you feel your child is showing symptoms of being on the spectrum then you can ask his paediatrician for a referal to a multi disciplinary team that has experience of diagnosing ASDs.  If they don't feel he meets the criteria then you are entitled to ask them to put in writing why they think that.

thanks you  have spoken to the paed he sees for 6 monthly check ups and she still on fence with yes he has  traits bit not enough for the full dx

We now have adx of sli but none sure whats caused it or even hazard guess at what future holds for him

You may also look into apraxia of speech.  My son is 4 and has a very limited vocabulary (less han 10 words that others can understand).  He has been working with a speech therapist and also attends PPCD.  They have ruled out autism but like your son, have no idea why he is not talking.  The speech therapist that we are working with this summer is treating him for apraxia.  I don't know if this is what your son has but it is worth looking into.
