I am a 19 year old female with scoliosis and a left curve of 31 degrees,
I wore a boston brace for 1 and a half year
My curves are suspected to be worse, going for X-ray in a few weeks haven't had one in 2+years
although my back is ribs and hips are defiantly more unaligned
Here is my most recent X-ray it is lying down though so my spine is straighter and is not a full spine X-ray where they can measure it. (Also it is backwards my curve is to the left ) I go for full X-rays Wednesday, just thought Id show you though, It looks more than 30 degrees but obviously I am not a dr. Any thought, comments appreciated I am quite nervous!
Hi...I was able to see ur MRI of ur spine and the curve from ur scoliosis, but I really do not know how to advise u...the only thing I can think to suggest is have u had a MRI of ur Lumbar spine to rule out tethered cord?
I know u also have chiari and TC is a related issue and is y many with it get scoliosis....I have a slight curve, nothing like urs....but it is there and I do have the tether.
Also Ehlers-danlos may play into this and all should be ruled out.
Oh ok....I was under the impression u had the Chiari dx already.
Well do get the full spine MRI....lumbar, thoracic and cervical.....and of course the brain MRI w/wo contrast...if they see a herniation u want them to look for a CSF obstruction as well as a syrinx, they can be newhere in the spine....
If u have tethered cord, it is not always seen on a MRI, but u can have an indication with the brain MRI if u have an elongated brain stem it points to it big time....having scoliosis is yet another possible indication.
Just got back form the dr. My thoracic curve has gone from 30 degrees to 42 degrees In 3 years!!! My doctor recommended surgery, but first I am going to Barrow Neurological institute to try to find out why it has progressed so fast when I am done growing. Also it sounds like if I decide to have the surgery it will be pretty soon like the next few months. My parents have to talk about it first. I want it, but my mom and dad seem really scared. Anyways here is the X-ray ( it is backward on here due to my laptops camera)
