Muscle spasms

I was recently diagnosed with lumbar stenosis. I have several levels where there is stenosis, the worst being L3/4 and L4/5. My doctor said they are both very significant stenosis'. I have been experiencing extreme spasms in my thighs. In trying to stretch the cramp out, the opposite muscle then spasms. They sometimes last a half hour. I haven't been back to my doctor - I have an appointment in a couple weeks. Can the stenosis, especially at these levels cause these extreme muscle spasms? Thanks for any input!

I often get muscle spasms in my legs as well. Not fun, are they? I do gentle, slow stretches, massage the muscle, use ice &/or hot packs, move vs rest. Regular exercise seems to help prevent them; walking, swimming, stretching, pilates. I have nerve root stenosis & disc bulging @ L3/4 & L5/S1. Inflammation sets off spasming for me.
