I habitually leave a front porch light on at night. In east Texas, from April until Autumns' first frost, bug lights (yellow) and bug 'zappers' are popular. This is due to our enormously high insect population. A variety of flying insects are drawn to our outdoor lights. And, all too often, mesquitos will drive people indoors from their porches and patios. My daughter was due in late tonight so I also left the carport light on for her. I thought the light would attract a multitude of bugs...But I was wrong, it didn't. I then walked around to the front of the house and looked for bugs to be flying around the porch light...No bugs. I could hear crickets, Katydids, and Cicadas although, not nearly the normal summer volume. I then realized that I have not been troubled by mesquitos this summer. Yesterday I tried to stir up a Fire Ant bed so I could exterminate them. They did not respond....Folks, this has been an unusually hot, dry season. The oddity continues.
