Half a Life

Oh, this addiction hurts me so..
brings me to heights I've never flown,
there are places I should not go..
when I am weak, I cannot pick up the phone;
my brain it commands me, makes me a slave,
bringer of pain, ultimately death;
for ten little pills is what you gave,
almost blindly, I catch my breath;
this will be with me, till the grave,
I know this all too well, it is true;
my head, it spins, from this ride;
pink, yellow, whites or blue,
but, all I feel is coldness, deep inside
the pains of loss ,for I cannot hide;
a broken man, left with a half-life
I am healed, I said, but I have lied;
beaten and torn, filled with strife,
so this man has tried to escape this world
one too many times, he's gotten up and tried;
the bottle of pills I just hurled
maybe this is a dream, but in reality I died.
