Hands numb?

Does anyone else get numbness/tingling in their hands when they do something that releases tension? Whenever I get a back rub or massage, my hands tingle and I can't clench them into fists. The same happens when I laugh really hard, or anything else that would generally feel relaxing, like scalp massages or back scratches. It's strange, I've explained it to my friends but none of them say it happens to them. My dance company will occasionally do a "massage train," where everyone sits in a line and massages the shoulders of those in front of them, while they get a massage from the person behind them. I always have to sit on the end, because when I'm getting a back rub, my hands are so numb that I can't press hard enough to give a good massage!

It even goes so far as to happen when I’m just WATCHING someone else get a massage, even if it’s just a youtube video.

Is this normal? It’s not a symptom of some kind of neurological defect, is it? Why does it happen?
