health and school stress

Hey i am a 20 year old male and have had anxiety problems for awhile. i took zoloft then switched to paxil then weaned myself of about a year ago. Im thinking about getting back on something again bc im am constantly stressed out/unhappy. I am a pre-med student and this semester is killing my soul. Also, I ALWAYS physically feel like something is wrong with me medically and feel like i need to see a doctor for one thing and then another etc. Like at the moment i havent been eating because it i feel like something is stuck at the bottom of my throat and it hurts badly to swallow food... I cant recall a time when i was just not worried about something/feeling like i should be doing work... Just wondering if anyone had any suggestions about anything and about getting back on some meds that can calm me down or make me happier becuase its becoming counterproductive. thanks!

Talk with your primary care physician, and tell him/her about your concerns.  Be totally truthful.  He/she will probably suggest you see someone in regards to stress management.  If your doctor doesnt suggest that, bring up the fact that you are considering it.  Meds and a therapist can go a long way.

Good luck.

It is very possible you have thyroid disease, you definitely want to rule that out, I had those symptoms at 20 and it took a long time and lots of money to get a diagnosis. Have your doctor check your thyroid level, but also have him check your thyroid anti-bodies as well. You can have a normal thyroid level, but have high antibodies causing your distress. Either way you want to get these symptoms addressed. Don't take mental disease as an answer until all other possibilities are ruled out.

Good luck and God Bless.
