Can stokes be confused for MS

by talaxia, Jul 03, 2009 10:32AM
First I'll start with my histroy.  In september 2004 i had an episode where my speach was all jumbled.  When i spoke my sentences came out mixed up, making some sense but the words were out of order.  I had to really concentrate on what i wanted to say and speak slower than normal in order to get the sentence to come out correctly. Some words i could not pronounce correctly at all no matter how hard i tried.  Thinking I had some sort of CVA or TIA i went to the emergency room and saw a neurologist.  I had a CT which was normal, and in April 2005 I had an MRI. The result of that MRI was I had one or two spots that were consistent with migrane.  In october of 2005 i had an episode where my left arm and had went numb.  I could move it, but i couldn't feel anything.  When objects were placed in my hand with my eyes closed i i could tell that there was something in my hand but i couldn't tell what it was.  An emergency MRI was done and In November of 2005 I was diagnosed with MS. I obtained another neurologist for a second opinion and had all kinds of blood work done to rule out genetic disorders that can present like MS, and reasons for stroke or TIA, all came back normal.  He agreed with the diagnoses of MS.  In June 2008 I had an episodes where my vision was distorted and I had a headache.  I can not explain how it was like i can see but i can't.  Another MRI was done which showed two more spots on my brain in the ocipital lobe.  MS Flare  or migrane was the diagnoses. Pluse therapry did not resolve the problem, i was put on drugs for migrane prevention, was off work for 6 weeks and it went away. December 2008, same thing.  Had CT just to rule out stroke, assumed another MS flare, had pulse therapy with no results, in 8 weeks it went away again. June 2009.  I get a headache in through my right eye, and felt tired.  While the pain was annoying it was far from sever.  In fact i continued to work while having it.  Felt a little off balance like walking on a plane or boat.  Again had a CT .  Result, Acute right CVA.  Apparently the radiologist also reveiewed my previous MRI and determined it wasn't the first CVA that i had.  Nurologists, agreed.  I had no other stroke symptoms.  Slight weakness in left side.  Was hopsitalized for 5 days, telemetry for 3 days all normal, all cardiac blood work normal, cholesterol not perfect but not high either. Echo normal, chest xray normal, MRI showed the area of damage seen on the CT. Neurologist #2 who was managing my MS and lives in a different city than me, agreed with Neurologist #1 and said i did not have MS. I'm on all medications for clot prevention, Plavix, asprin, drugs for migrane prevention.  I feel like I'm not getting the right answers.  A year ago i had exactly the same symptons that were diagnosed as MS Flare and now this time, its a CVA.  If it was a CVA last year why didn't anyone say  so then, and the years before.  I'm confused and feel like the neurologist, is just agreeing with the radiologist, and the neuorlogist #2 is agreeing with them both.  What should I do.  I don't want to find out in a few years that i do have MS and have been taken off my drugs for that.
