Carotid Artery Dissections

by SassyRed117, Jun 04, 2005 12:00AM
On 9/2/04 I suffered a spontaneous left carotid artery dissection, then developed an aneurysm in December of 04.  I had a stent placed in the artery in January of 2005.   Since September I have had a continuing head pain that is unbearable, which is managed right now with pain killers.  I also suffered permanent Horners Syndrome in the left eye with the dissection.  I am assuming I had some nerve damage to my brain with the dissection.  My neurologist wants to get me off the pain killers which I would love to do, however, the pain is horrible and I cannot function with the pain.  It is usually on a scale of 1-10 a 10.  We have tried several different medications to try and get rid of the pain with no success.  You can tell when my head hurts severely because my left eye almost closes completely, after taking the pain medication the eye starts to open back up. My question is:  Is there a special type of doctor I could see that could help me determine which nerve was damaged and get it repaired so the pain will go away?  Is there something I can do to alleviate the pain other than the pain pills?  I have found one documented case of this on the blackwell synergy web site.  Please help me find something or someone who can help.  I am at my wits end and just cannot do this anymore.   Thank you very much.
