Central Retinal Vein Occlusion

by maddiesmom, Mar 01, 2005 12:00AM
Thanks for taking my question; it's somewhat cross-cutting.  I am 35 years old, in previously good health (normal/underweight), with a history of 2 migraines involving visual disturbance, starting in the last 2 years.  Two months ago I had vision loss in my right eye in what seemed like a migraine (darkened from out to in for about 2 hours).  This repeated 2 days later; the next day I was diagnosed with a central retinal vein occlusion, which I was told was a stroke.

I have since been cleared for lupus, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, etc. (10 vials of my blood and counting!).  I also discontinued caffeine (a previously major habit), alcohol (minor habit, occasional wine), and started drinking water profusely.

The good news is that my eye has drastically improved.  The bad news is that my BP is suddenly elevated (was normal at the time this happened), constant headaches, impending migraines, edema in the hands (not feet/legs), strange numbness in the fingers (once a pinkie, next the tip of a middle finger).  [I was prescribed a diuretic once the BP went up and the tingling came after I started it].  If I strain my eyes, they become numb and my vision starts to fade ...

I am scheduled for MRIs of my brain and orbits and a hematologist is doing final testing for hereditary clotting factors.  Any ideas for the odd neurological symptoms?  Any linkage between MS and clotting?  I should add that I am breastfeeding, just in case it matters.  Thank you!
