Complicated migraines

by worstmigraines, Jun 11, 2008 03:29AM
Please advise what the latest is for patients with complicated migraines.  I have had migraines since I was 13, and despite every neuro med had either done absolutely nothing for me or I have to go the ER for severe adverse side effects.  The last med I tried was Namenda...and another ER visit.  Also, what advise can you advise for the Pain Management Clinic, and what questions should I ask...pros and cons, etc.

hi!
How are you? would you know what triggers your migraine attacks? Are you stressed lately? What other medications are you taking?
It would be best if you have both abortive and prophylactic care to ensure that your migraine will not happen again. Abortive care, you  simply take medication at the onset of the headache or aura. and prophylactic therapy is more involved and is reserved for those patients who experience more than 8 headaches per month that do not respond to abortive care or whose headaches last more than one day during each episode. I suggest you visit your doctor so he can properly evaluate you and give you alternative medications.
Others go to chiropractic care for migraines.
I hope this helps.Take care and keep us posted.

I was just diagnosed with complicated migraines, he put me on 3 different types of meds. One I take every day and the other 2 I am to take if I feel a migraine coming on. I am sorry you are in so much pain and have been suffering so long and meds don't work. I am new to all this myself and have been dealing with it since March. I 1st came to this board because I thought I had a stroke but turns out it was my migraines causing me to have stroke like symptoms. I hope you find some relief soon!!

I suffered the worst migraines since I was 13 too.
And at 36 I had a stroke, which they related it to being a complicated migraine.
I read all my transcripts and my heart echo was abnormal, which the doctor at the hospital said nothing to worry about.
I took it upon myself to look into this further and saw a cardiologist.
Within 5 min of going through my symptoms of my stroke he said I bet you have a PFO
Patent forum ovale. ( wall not sealed in the heart) And sure enough I did with a anuerysm.
I had it closed and till this day I have had no migaines for over a year nearly 2yrs.
He said that many people that suffer migraines have a good chance they have a PFO.
So I would check into it, If I hadn't who knows where I would be now. A ticking bomb.
take care
