My 88 yer old mother suffered her second stroke four weeks ago. It affected her right side and initially her speech was confused. After four weeks in hospital her speech has returned but she has now developed gangrene in her affected leg. This was only found as we noticed her toes were going blue and the nurses removed the support stockings. The consultant now tells us that there is nothing to be done except to keep her comfortable. I am not looking for anyone to blame but don't understand how this could have happened. She has a few black patched on her foot and ankle and several purplish patches. it is now really hurting her. I understand that surgery would be a huge risk for someone of her age and condition but wondered if there were any altenatives. Thanks you for your help.
