Headache, Noise back of neck, No Headache

by Phred1970, Jul 02, 2009 08:46AM
I have suffered from headaches for a while now and have noticed a peculiar symptom.  Some times I will have a headache, and then I will hear/feel a spurting noise/sensation in that back of my neck, followed by relief of my headache.  The only time I encounter this sensation is when I have a headache.  Usually I will encounter this sensation 3 or 4 times within a few minutes and the noise/sensation only last for a few seconds each time.  As you can imagine, it is impossible to get the to happen while a doctor is present and listening with a stethoscope. The best way to further describe the sound is to put your lips together and slowly blow a combination of saliva and air out a small opening in your lips (sorry for the grossness). I am concerned that this noise is coming from blockage in the artery to the brain. Is it possible that a arterial blockage or narrowing is causing this sound and sensation?  If so, what should I do? ...... father has history of stoke/TIA, I also have neck pain/tension problems (prescribed skelaxtin), I have very acute senses (I hear subtle noises that most never pick up on, I usually feel it when a flea, tick, or mosquito is on me)
