Recovery Period?

My mom had AVM Bleed Mar 6, she is 68 years old. the bleed was in her Cerebellum and was major. They told us she would not survive this, but she did. The Doctor removed the AVM the day of the event as well as a blood clot against her brain stem the size of an egg. She has never stopped responding to commands, she can move all of her limbs, turn over in bed and knows the answer to any questions you ask her including doing crosswords. My question is she has as many periods of confusion and talking out of her head as she has clear moments, just starting to get her days and nights straight, in rehab, doing well. How long does it usually take for the confusion to go away, and will it go away completely eventually. Her doctor told us weeks ago that he expects a full recovery, but he hasn't seen her or consulted with us since she's been in rehab and one day she is so clear and talking about everything, and the next day she doesn't even seem to recognize us. Is this normal during the healing process? The last time we spoke to the surgeon he said the blood residue needed to clear from her brain and that could take some time. Would appreciate any information on what to expect in the future and a basic timeline.

My sister-in-law suffered a hemorrhagic stroke (intracerebral hemorrhage) on May 18th. They have done a ventriculostomy. They are telling us that she will have slurred speech, minimal use of her right arm and walk with a limp, if she survives. They have her in a medicated coma and are feeding her through a tube in her nose. They say they will keep her in the coma for 3-4 weeks. Is this normal? She fell in the driveway while mowing the yard, the gas man found her approx. 30-45 mins. later and called 911. She (at that time) was able to tell them 2 slurred words, the place her husband is employed and their last name. They did a cat scan the day it happend and another one the next day. They say the bleeding has stopped. They are doing another one tomorrow too. They are now talking about putting a shunt in. Once again I ask is this normal. I appreciate any/all answers fom those who hav been there themselves as well as the doctor(s). Thank you for your time.

Lost without her here hanging with us!

Sorry to hear about your mom, hope she is OK. My mom is still in the hospital, due to be released May 10th. My biggest problem is it is so hard to get a straight answer from anyone.

my mom had a bleed just a week ago. her doctor wasn't very available at the time of her hospital stay either. as a matter of fact she (the doctor) discharged her 4 days after she was admitted. i'm on my way over to her house right now because my sister just called to tell me she has chills and a fever. she did seem to be doing well but i'[ve had a bad feeling since they called to tell us to pick her up.
i plan to speak to her doctor asap. does anyone know anything about the healing period from something like this.
