Seizure disorder or stroke?

by speedypencer, Sep 03, 2007 09:46PM
My mother was diagnosed with Alzheimers 18 months ago.  She just turned 64 2 weeks ago.  She had a stroke about 6 weeks ago, and they found she has 4 blood clots in the brain of unknown origin.  She is in a care facility and has been sent to the hospital twice for "seizures", where they say she is unresponsive and convulses.  The hospital has found no cause, but is doing further tests.  She is on a number of meds-zoloft, wellbutrin, coumadin, zyprexa, aricept and namenda.  Could this be after affects of the stroke or is there a possiblity of a seizure disorder?

Seizures could be the result of the stroke.  My seizures started after stroke and are controlled with medication.  Whether the stroke is the cause of your mothers seizures will have to be determined by her doctors.

I'm sure with your mothers other health condition and the meds she is on, the dr.s are looking to determine whether the seizures are related to the stroke, her meds or other health conditions.
I wish you good luck.
