Stroke & A Trach

by priceless157, Jun 07, 2007 12:00AM
My friend is 47 years old and suffered a stroke in December.  She has had 2 surgerys and has a trach and on a vent.  She is now in a nursing/rehab home.  She seems to not be improving, but not really getting any worse.  At first she could not even move her right side, now is is moving her right hand a little, but is is beginning to curl.  Is their any hope...it has been 6 months and we live in Florida, but the stroke happened while we were on vacation in New York and she is still in new York because no one in Florida wants to accept her because her oxygen level in at 35% and they will only accept 28% or below.   Is their any hope?

A trach is usually inappropriate,  and not always reversible, but it gets the patient off the high-cost ICU. A trach is usually an excuse for incompetent nursing care. The people from the respiratory therapy department oftenj cauyse strokes by inappropriatey providing days of nebulized oxygen. The stroke patient cannot clear the secretions ands aspiration pneumonia develops. The exzcsues for physicians these days tired to have my 102 year old sweety pie trached twice. Twop and a half years ago, and as recently as last month. Alas, if onlu dueling were again legal...There ARE reasons for a tracg, but mostly it's an adfminmistrative action to get the psatient off the huigh-cost care ward and into a nursing home. They smile, all habe a monologue, but heavens to murgetroiid...they LIE!.
