Stroke and recovery

My 59 year old mom had a massive stroke ( right CVA) 7 weeks ago Sunday morning.  She lost her left side, but her can talk and communicate well.  She has neglect and mild trouble with short term memmory. She was in an in hospital rehab and insisted she go home after 4 weeks.  She is able to move her leg and can even walk with an hemiwalker.  Her arm started some movement after about 3 weeks into rehab, but she wouldn't stay.  Now she is home and we are her PT and OT for now, until we can get something start at home.  Possible 1 hour a week of PT and OT three times a week. (so not much, but something)  what if any are her chances of a recovery of arm and leg.  and how long will it be?  I know noone around here that has experience with strokes is there anyone that can tell me what to exspect and for how long?  Well she recover or are we beating our head against a brick wall?

Take heart. It usually is a long road. The key is to never give up. She must be challenged daily. Most stroke patients will not do it on their own. They need to be continually motivated. Don't let her rehab get in a rut. Mix it up a bit. Remember, her brain which has been damaged is trying to relearn a lot. Will she recover 100%? Unknown. Will it take time (months to years)? YES! It's not easy for you but think about how your mom must feel. Stay with it and best of luck.
