6 days ago I experienced the following: immediate onset of right handHand or foot spasms Hand tremor/arm numbnessNumbness and tingling and tingling. The symptoms travelled up my arm into my faceFace pain which felt like the right side had dropped then into my scalp which began to tingle. I turned to my 6 year old son and said "go get daddy" but what came out was "blah blah blah blah". I got VERY SCARED and immediately stood up. I said it again "go get daddy" and this time it came out right. At this point my son was scared and frozenFrozen shoulder. I ran down the stairs, got my husband and off to the ER we went. The whole "episode" lasted between 5 and 10 SECONDS. At the ER I had a CT scan (clean) and was admitted for observation and further testing. I had a subsequent MRI of my brain, MRI with contrast of the veins in my brain and MRA with contrast of my cortid arteries. I also had 7 vials of blood taken. All MRI's and MRA's were clean and apparently the bloodwork was all within normalNormal saline flush ranges. My doctor released me from the hospital advising me to follow up in 2 weeks. His diagnosis was A-Typical Migraine but the release paperwork was all about TIAAlzheimer’s disease Blood differential Bronchitis and normal condition in tertiary bronchus Chem-20 Chem-7 Dementia Essential hypertension Essential tremor Group b streptococcal septicemia of the newborn Gynecomastia Incontinentia pigmenti on the leg. I am now EXTREMELY ANXIOUS about what the heck happened to me and am trying to just relax but am finding it very hard. I am overweight (have lost 13 lbs. in the last 2 months though and my goal is another 30) and other than a 15 year history of migraine with aura, I have no other risk factors for TIA or stroke. ALSO, I'M 34 YEARS OLD.
Has anyone my age had these symptoms and if so what was your experience/diagnosis.
Sorry it took me awhile to respond, I don't usually look everyday.
I had similar problems, loss of vision, weakness, falling, and amnesia. Also the numbness, tingling, trouble even walking, and nausea. Now I have no recall of most all of the ER visits and have forgotten how to do some things I knew how to previously.
It ended in 3 ER visits because the first visit my family dr was upset with and wanted me seen again. The 2nd dr thought it was a stroke, which I have a significant history of, plus a small left cer. infarction. Then when it wasn't better my family Dr had me go to a larger hospital and they said it was a silent migraine.
With some migraines you can have stroke like symptoms. Are you scheduled for follow up with a good neurologist specializing in stroke and migraine? That would be what I would strongly suggest. Also there are some migraine groups on Medhelp that have great information. This is a good article and does mention speech problems...http://www.ehow.com/about_5074833_silent-migraine.html
Hope this helps,
Tracy
