Trans Ischaemic Attack and Asasantin

Last week I came home at dinner time and checked and found a really shocking email from somebody. I got really upset - more than I can remember, and got tongue tied when I started telling my wife, sort of stammering and within a couple of minutes got a really awful headache right across my forehead, and found that when I started to talk only 'gibberish' came out. I knew the words I wanted to say clearly in my mind but when i spoke they came out all wrong. I tried to calm down, and took a valium, but couldn't recognise item names properly - wife asked if I wanted avocado on my sandwich and I didn't know what it was. She showed me one and I didn't know what it was called.
I tried to type a word on the keyboard in reply to the email but couldn't work out what the letters were. Just sat and stared and they meant nothing to me.
I didn't feel dizzy or anything, just the headache and a little nauseous. This went on for about 30 minutes and then things came back over a period of a few minutes.
I went to the doc the next day and he said I had a TIA, and doesn't know why....maybe the shock. Said older (I'm 71) sometimes get them, and provided there's no paralysis or weakness in limbs and the pass fairly quickly, not to worry. I might not have anymore.
He prescribed me Asasantin 200mg, twice a  day. I take baby aspirin daily, and he said to take this instead. I took one with a meal and was up all night with a blinding headache, and severe reflux (I have GERD) and actually bought a mouthful of bile up twice.
I've read about the Asasantin side affects and don't like the sound of it at all. I have to see the doc again on Wednesday, and will discuss it then.
Anybody else have experience with this whole new addition to my life's list of misery who can help with info and opinions etc as usual will be valued.
thanks, Kev

Hi, as you have had an episode of TIA, your doctor is preventing further attacks by prescribing stronger blood thinners. They can cause gastritis. Take them after food and try to take dinner earlier and then the medication. If your symptoms still persist then you can discuss with your doctor for alternate medications like clopidogrel. This is unlikely to cause gastritis. Regards.

I looked at the package and ASASANTIN is a brand name for DIPYRIDAMOLE/ASPIRIN.
Thought I would clarify that.
