Why are my legs so weak?

I have had Type 2 Diabetes for nearly 20 years.  I had a mini stroke in 1999,  and recovered quite well, and have experienced  a gradual weakening of my body.  One year ago, the only MRI I have had showed some brain stem damage. Recently my left hand has lost mobility. But last week, my legs started buckling and I am finding it difficult to walk, even with a walker. I was asking my Doctor if I would benefit from a B12 shot, when I visited today, He said it is ok, Could there be a mineral deficiency? Please advise,
