dizziness after stroke

My dad had a stroke 4 yrs. ago at age 80. Right side was affected along with speech. He takes spells of being dizzy since then. He has had some double vision in his right eye since stroke. We have had all tests on his ears & found no problem.
His blood pressure is good without a drop when standing. Heart has also been checked.
He has episodes when he dizzy while walking. Sitting down, he's fine. The episodes are worse in the mornings when he tries to walk for exercise. He will have the dizziness for a month or so and then they go away for a few weeks but always return. Any suggestions as to what may be causing the dizziness?

You might try a patch over one eye, or else use a 1/2 to 3/4  inch circle of opaque tape in the middle of the eyeglass of one eye. The diziiness is most likely cause by the same mechanism that caused the double vision. There has been deprivation of oxygen to the 3rd and 4th cranial nerves. This is what cause the double-vision and the dizziness and the problems with balance. A two dollar eye patch will eliminate cross signals to the brain and his walking should improve. Generally the double vision will go away on its own within 6 weeks to six months. If it does not heal there are other options. Consult an opthamological neurologist.
