I had symptoms of a stroke (wekaness in left arm, leg and face some dropping in face) on april 22 and was given tpa. the mri's were negatvie, I had no risk factors for a stroke. I was put on plavix and was going to physical therapy. Nine weeks later I had another epiosde this time it started with left side pain in leg and arm then wekaness in arm and leg and left side of face. Was given TPS again and everything but some weakness in legcame back to normal.(this time I was unable to move the toes and foot on left side for about an hour)  Again the mri was normal. No one can tell me if it is a stroke, if it will happen again. the doctors are stating they dont know because there is no damage in the brain to indicate a stroke,at the same time the doctor stated that if theis happens again that I cannot have the tpa because I have already had TPA twice in 2months and it would be dangerous to keep giving it to me. Where should I go to find out what is going on with me. I am a 46 yr old woman with hypothyroidism as the only medical problem befor this.

Hi

Sorry to hear about your episides, it must have been quite scary :(  But isn't it great that thr tPA seems to have done its job.

Given that you had tPA, it seems plausible that you don't have any visible damage on the MRI.  But then again it might not have been a stroke, even though it does sound like it, doesn't it?

If I were you I would get thoroughly checked out, to try to find the cause.  If it's found there may be steps that can be taken to manage the problem & help prevent another episode.   Have you had yourt heart checked  (for a PFO, other defects that can cause/transmit clots), your blood checked for any clotting disorders (clotting factors or platelet stickiness, etc), blood pressure (can cause vessels to spasm close), medications that you are on that might cause problems (eg the pill)?  These are just a few things off the top of my head & I'm no doctor.

All the very best & persevere until you are satisfied.
